Bogotá: The Arrival

Well, on Sunday we arrived in Bogotá. At the airport though, the funniest thing happened to me. The person who checks your bags pulled me aside, checked my backpack, and asked me if she could have two que-tips! Only in Colombia. The rest of Sunday and Monday we toured the city; walking the streets, looking at museums (they had a really cool art museum). We even got to walk past the Presidential Palace, and my favorite, we got to tour the ´Plaza de Toro´-the place where they fight bulls. The past two days and tomorrow as well we will be working with the ´children at risk´ in San Luis, a mountain town on the outskirts of Bogotá. The veiw from the house there is simply breath taking. I love working with the children, we have really been able to make an impact on their lives as well as the lives of the workers there. Please keep these children in your prayers. One was raped and is now five months pregnant at the age of 15! The workers have seen it as young as 13 though! Another thing is these children are introduced to drugs and alcohol at school as young as 6-8 years old and the sad thing is, it is during school hours usually every Friday, sometimes Thursday, and the teachers are often there! El domingo, que llegó a Bogotá. En el aeropuerto, la cosa más divertida que me pasó. La persona que controles tus bolsas me hizo aparte, verificó mi bolsa, y me pidió que dos-tips! El resto de domingos y lunes una gira por la ciudad. Caminamos por la calle, miró a los museos-el mejor fue el museo de arte-caminó alrededor del palacio presidencial. Mi favorito era la "plaza de Torró´. Las vistas desde la casa es simplemente tomar aliento. Me encanta trabajar con los niños, hemos sido capaces de hacer un impacto en sus vidas, así como la vida de los trabajadores. Por favor, mantenga a estos niños en sus oraciones. Una de ellas fue violada y ahora está embarazada de cinco meses a la edad de 15! Los trabajadores se han visto tan jóvenes como de 13 a pesar de! Otra cosa es la introducción de estos niños a las drogas y el alcohol en la escuela tan jóvenes como de edad 6-8 años y la cosa es triste, es por lo general durante el horario escolar todos los viernes, a veces jueves, y los profesores son a menudo!
